Shelter Island is a short trip to the famed North Fork wine trail, so consider a guided wine tour to explore the many wineries and vineyards in Greenport, Southold and beyond.

The Mashomack Preserve is a must-visit for nature lovers, offering 2,350 acres of preserved land, wildlife and walking trails. Sylvester Manor is another popular option. Additionally, roads throughout Shelter Island are fairly flat, making it easy to explore the island by bike.

Travel Tips
Ferries
Shelter Island is only accessible by ferry from Greenport (North Ferry) or Sag Harbor (South Ferry), unless you’re coming by private boat or seaplane. Both ferries allow cars, and it’s about a 10-minute ride. The ferries do NOT run all night, so keep that in mind if you don’t plan to stay overnight.
