• Nature & Outdoors: The Mashomack Preserve is a must-visit for nature lovers, offering 2,350 acres of preserved land, wildlife and walking trails. Sylvester Manor is another popular option. Additionally, roads throughout Shelter Island are fairly flat, making it easy to explore the island by bike.
• Restaurants: Shelter Island has a lively food scene, offering everything from high-end dining to casual eateries. You’ll find numerous options along Ferry Road (Rt. 114). For an amazing waterfront view, head over to Sunset Beach Hotel & Restaurant on Shore Road (Rt. 42).

• Attractions Outside of Shelter Island: For more things to do, the neighboring communities of Greenport and Sag Harbor have many additional options.

Travel Tips

• Ferries: Shelter Island is only accessible by ferry from Greenport (North Ferry) or Sag Harbor (South Ferry), unless you’re coming by private boat or seaplane. Both ferries allow cars, and it’s about a 10-minute ride. The ferries do NOT run all night, so keep that in mind if you don’t plan to stay overnight.
